I was born in San Diego, California in 1960 to Roy and Charlotte Northington.
I am the youngest of six siblings. I was lucky to grow up on a large ranch
in the tiny town of Potrero, California. We raised cattle and farmed oat
hay. During harvest we would bail and stack up to 10,000 bails of hay.
Working along side my dad, I developed my strong personal character, high
moral values and diligent work ethic. He also taught me that honesty,
fairness, and treating all people well made life a lot easier. After graduating in August of 1982, I was assigned to the East Los Angeles office. During my time there I was selected as a field training officer and worked on protective services details. After the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles I voluntarily transferred to the El Cajon area office in August of 1984. I continued as a field-training officer working specifically as an officer safety-training instructor. I met my wife Barbara while she working as an EMT for Hartson Ambulance Company. We were married in November 1986. In May of 1988 I voluntarily transferred to the Bridgeport office in beautiful Mono County. Barbara was five months pregnant with twins when we arrived. In August of 1988 our fraternal twins Corbin and Courtney were born. In October 1990 we were blessed with the addition of our next daughter Kelsey. Then in April 1994 our youngest child, Kyle, was born.
During this time I worked as Bridgeport areas Public Affairs Officer,
range officer, court officer, Association Rep and completed many other
administrative duties. Additionally, I had the opportunity to teach defensive/winter
driving classes to Mammoth Mountain employees and allied agencies. I also
became the school bus officer in charge of testing all the Mono County
school bus drivers. My time on the school board has presented me with the opportunity to visit and interact with parents, students, staff and community members throughout the district. I have developed a great respect for the diversity of each of our rural communities. They are all different in their climates, focus and activities. However there is one common denominators for all our communities, and that is pride in their towns and the kids in them. I feel that it is my duty as a community member, law enforcement officer and school board member to run for the office of Sheriff of Mono County. I have dedicated my life to the betterment of my family and my community, and to the communities I represent. Mono County is our home and I truly appreciate the wonderful life it has provided.
