Doug Jenson's Mission Statement

I officially announced that I would be running for Sheriff on July 27th, 2007. Once I decide to do something, I become very passionate towards that goal. A close friend of mine told me to run a clean campaign and never promise anything you can’t deliver.

First I need to bring up one of my weak points. And yes, I will admit I have some. I am not a politician. I speak my mind. If I feel strongly about something, I will try to be kind, but I will tell you exactly what I think. If you ask me something I may not have an immediate answer. I will not try to make something up. I will think it through and give you an honest answer as soon as I can.

Here are a few of what I believe are some of my strengths. If I didn’t believe I was the best person for sheriff, I would not run. I like people. I believe that sometimes law enforcement has gotten away from the creed of “to protect and serve”. Sometimes we get hung up on our personal statistics and forget it’s about protecting the people who can’t help themselves. As sheriff, I will strive to improve upon this philosophy.

With continual cuts in funding, balancing budgets with less money has become a huge issue. As sheriff, I promise that every dollar that is spent will be spent wisely. The Sheriff’s Department has many un-tapped financial resources. As sheriff, I will see that those resources are used to generate funds for our department. Prior to law enforcement, every job in my adult life has been in business, working with budgets, spreadsheets and general finance. With my leadership and financial abilities, NWA Federal Credit Union offered me the branch manager position of their Detroit, Michigan office. As sheriff, I plan on using that same stewardship to manage our department’s funds.

With the small size of our department, we will need to be more efficient. As sheriff, I will take an honest look at our Call For Service load; make a decision where patrol is best served and we will be proactive instead of reactive. As sheriff, I will make the office more efficient so that the deputies can spend more time on the road. As a department we will 1) assess the needs of the public and 2) translate those needs into services and programs that can be efficiently and effectively delivered to the county.

My last two promises are these. As sheriff, I will make every effort to keep the public informed with the progress of our department. Finally, my biggest goal is to make the public in Winnebago County proud of their Sheriff’s Department!
