March 7, 2006 "I’m running for Sheriff because I know I can provide the leadership
needed to move the department into the 21st century by creating a focus
on community policing," said Doug. "Mono County is a small rural county. We can achieve this integration better than most places–and we can do even more, like welcoming skilled citizens into volunteer roles with the department." "The better the sheriff’s department runs," observed Northington. "the better it is for all of us–even in Mammoth, where the sheriff is responsible for answering 911 calls, providing search and rescue, leading local disaster response and management, and providing backup support for the town police force." Northington got a jump on the election, which is scheduled for June 6, 2006, by obtaining his preliminary filing papers last December–on the first day they were available. Since then he has proposed focused mission and values statements for the sheriff’s department, which he promises to implement if elected. They can be found on his website, www.dougforsheriff.com. A Bridgeport resident for 18 years and highway patrolman for 24, Doug has a diverse range of law enforcement experience including complex criminal investigations, road patrol, and drug interdictions. He has acted as liaison to the courts, the Department of Justice, district attorney and additionally he’s lead safety training and public affairs programs. Doug gained a wealth of experience in urban Los Angeles and San Diego early in his career. He’s been happily married for 19 years, has 4 children, and is currently serving in his sixth year as a school board member. Added Northington, "I’m excited to talk with people throughout Mono County about how the sheriff’s department can best serve them. I welcome residents contacting me at any time." # # # No questions or suggestions are too large or small; just send me a message or email me directly at [email protected].
